Cinnamon applesauce ornaments are super easy to make, requiring only a few inexpensive ingredients. Plus, they smell incredible. When paired with a fresh pine tree, your home will start to smell a lot like Christmas in no time. But remember, even though they smell delicious, these festive baked goods aren't for eating. So, as tempting as the dough may look, remind yourself that there's glue in there.
Things You'll Need
- 3/4 cup cinnamon
- 1/4 cup pumpkin pie spice
- 1 cup applesauce
- 1/3 cup glue
- Parchment paper
- Plastic wrap
- Rolling pin
- Cookie cutters
- Straw
- Spatula
- Cookie sheet
- Glitter (optional)
- Twine or ribbon (optional)
- Hot glue (optional)
Step 1
Combine ingredients in a bowl using a spoon or your hands.
Step 2
Use your hands to form the dough into a large ball. Let sit for an hour, and enjoy a gingerbread hot toddy while you wait.
Step 3
Divide in half and form two smaller balls of dough.
Step 4
Sprinkle a small amount of cinnamon onto a sheet of parchment paper. Place dough on parchment paper. Top with plastic wrap and use rolling pin to roll out to 1/4-inch thick.
Step 5
Cut dough with the cookie cutters of your choice. Then use a spatula to transfer the shapes to a cookie sheet covered in parchment paper. If making ornaments, use a straw to make holes.
Step 6
Bake at 200 degrees Fahrenheit for 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Remove from oven and allow to cool.
Step 7
Brush on glue or decoupage medium and add glitter as desired. Let dry.
